Beit ~ ב
"Who's First Anyway?!"
Beit ב + Tav ת = Beit
Meaning = House
Gematria = 2
Genesis 1:1 ~ “In the beginning, G-D created the heaven and the earth”
“B’reishit Bara Elohim Et…” The very first letter is not the Alef … but it begins with the letter Beit.
Beit and Tav … an introduction to the book of the Zohar: "The article of the letters"
"When G-D wanted to create the world, each one of the letters tried to make a petition why they should be the first letter in creation. The very last letter, Tav, stood before G-D and said, “Master of the universe, it is worthy that in my letter all the world would be created … because I am the last letter in the word Emet [the Hebrew word for Truth]." This is also one of the names of G-D … "Elohim Emet." And so Tav continues, "I am the last letter in the word Emet so surely I am worthy to be first in all of creation." G-D speaks to the Tav, saying that "he is beautiful but that he is not worthy to create the world." And so the story continues until the Beit stands before the L-RD and petitions its case: “Oh Master of the Universe, surely I am worthy because the letter Beit represents Baruch or Blessed. In the letter Beit, it is worthy that you create the world with the word Bereshit, because we bless* Your name in heaven and earth in two places … “ And G-D says “In you, I will make all things.”
* The Hebrew word for bless is "Baruch" which can also mean "to bend the knee" or "to bow."
Within Jewish Liturgy, the Amidah is the pinacle of the service where we begin with the Avot (which means fathers) We begin this prayer with Baruch ata Adonai as we bend our knees and bow our hearts; and we end this prayer in the same way with the same words and actions. It is the only benediction within the Amidah that begins and ends with the word Baruch ברוך
Prophetically: If the letter Beit was truly worthy, and it represents the Son of G-D (Binah) then we can understand that all things were created by the Son of G-D … the Binah.
Psalm 33:6 tells us that "By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, their starry host by the breath of his mouth." He spoke the word into existence and the Hebrew word for speech is Davar = WORD! By the word everything was created! John 1:1 … the word was with G-D and was G-D! Everything was created through the letter Beit "in the beginning" or "in the head of creation" …
The Beit and the Tav look similar
Interesting that there was competition between them for all of creation. The Zohar explains … "G-d wears a ring on His finger, with a seal on it. The seal of this ring is the word “Emet.” The Tav says he should be able because of this … but the letter Tav says not only am I the last letter, but I am worthy to do this because in the future, the letter Tav will be written on the foreheads of all people who kept the faith.
Rev. 7:3
The four angels who had been given power to harm the land and the sea: "Do not harm the land or the sea or the trees until we put a seal on the foreheads of the servants of our G-D.” The seal is the letter Tav!
Technicalities of the Letter
Meaning = House
Gematria = 2
- Represents the two worlds ~ Heaven & Earth
- Beit is also derived from the word Binah (Ben and Yah = Son of G-D) ~ the Binah is the connection between heaven and earth. *Remember the One who opens the gates of heaven with His tears.
- The entire bible begins with this letter in the Hebrew word B’reshit בְּרֵאשִׁית
Genesis 1:1 ~ “In the beginning, G-D created the heaven and the earth”
“B’reishit Bara Elohim Et…” The very first letter is not the Alef … but it begins with the letter Beit.
- The first four words begin with the letters … Beit Beit Alef Alef … symmetry!
- So the question is, "Why did G-D start with the the letter Beit?" Let us remove our "greek glasses" and "western outlook" while we look a little deeper through the lense of Jewish understanding passed down through those who have gone before us

- The letter Tav will be put on our foreheads .. Representing the true messianic faith.
- G-D still decides that the letter Beit will receive the privilege of being first to start in the beginning.
- Everything has been created through the Son of G-D … through Him and Him alone all things were made!
Technicalities of the Letter
- The beit with a dot (dagesh) makes the 'B' sound, without the dagesh, makes the 'V' sound.
- When it is the first letter of a word, it will always have a B sound … and it means "in"
- Where it is the letter, it will make a V sound.
