YOM KIPPUR - Day of Atonement
The first reference to Yom Kippur or Day of Atonement in the Torah is in Leviticus 23:26-32. Here three key requirements are given for its celebration on the 10th day of 7th seventh month starting from the evening of the 9th to sunset on the 10th:
- A day of affliction and self denial
- Offerings of fire
- No work as it is a Shabbat of solemn rest.
